Magical History — in the Celtic Faery Tradition & More
Magical history and mystery wisdom have been passed down through thousands of years in many different cultures, possibly from as far back as the time of Lemuria, yet these ancient secrets are still alive and accessible to us in the present time.
Various mystery schools have outlined different paths that will ultimately lead us to the same end — the experience of alignment, harmony and balance.
Alignment with what, one may ask?
That is where we may run into problems, for two reasons:
- The experience of alignment is impossible to adequately put into words
- The words used to describe the experience differ from one culture to another
We have words like heaven, enlightenment, nirvana, God-consciousness, Goddess, magic, Nature, higher-self, Oneness, etc. — all of which are only mental concepts pointing to alignment with something larger than our ordinary conscious awareness.
They indicate an experience that transcends logic and language, yet this experience is so powerful and undeniable that, once we know it, we recognize it as the core essence of who we are.
Discovering Magic Through History
Humans have always kept our connection with magic alive through stories and mythology. The Celtic myths and Arthurian legends, among others, are filled with magic and sprinkled with secrets that only initiates will recognize. You will begin to explore these in the Celtic Mystery School Magic Foundation Course.
Even today, in spite of our modern, scientific mind-set, Harry Potter books are runaway best sellers, topping every other novel in the history of publishing — and this at a time when reading has lost popularity to films and computer games!
What we generally don’t realize is that these fictional tales of magic actually open our minds to the reality of magic on a subconscious level. In a sense, they ARE creating magic!
We are seeing a resurgence of interest in real magic as a direct result of the widespread popularity of Harry Potter. People all over the world are beginning to realize that they are not really muggles after all. Magical things are happening in their lives.
It’s about time!
Mystery Schools Outlined the Path to Enlightenment
The mystery schools were established to outline a path back to this awareness of our true essence, pointing the way to the inner experience of our creative power.
Through myths, rituals, symbols, and shamanic exploration of the Otherworlds we are able to reconnect with the primal force that creates all the worlds — a force that resides within each one of us.
The Spiritual Foundation of Magic!
Mystery schools existed in cultures all over the world. They were the basis for all the religions we find in our world today. Unfortunately, many modern religions have evolved into very different establishments that deny the value of Nature, Earth and physical life in favor of a promised reward in the afterlife.
That is far from the original purpose of mystery wisdom. The mystery schools were all about discovering the deepest value and power within the present moment — in THIS life. All aspects of our being, mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual, were honored and held in balance.
Some people have speculated that ancient mystery wisdom came from as far back as Atlantis, or even Lemuria. One thing certain is that much of modern mystery wisdom can be traced back to ancient Egypt where we have discovered mystery temple structures well over 15,000 years old.
Their proportions and placement on the planet are based on sacred geometry and connections with the stars. This mystery wisdom spread throughout the Middle East and strongly influenced the evolution Judeo-Christian beliefs.
For more information, check out Drunvalo Melchizedek’s YouTube videos, books and workshops. They may be some of the best researched information on sacred geometry and Egyptian history available today — though I don’t agree with many of his conclusions.
Explore Celtic Mysteries
Another stream of ancient mystery wisdom, that is not as well documented, appears to share similar roots with the Egyptian. We now call it Celtic, though much of the mythology seems to have originated in the pre-Celtic history of the British Isles.
The Celts were an Indo-European race that spanned the continent of Europe and eventually settled in the British Isles and parts of Western Europe. Because they tended to merge with cultures they encountered, it is now difficult or impossible to separate the purely Celtic from pre-Celtic traditions and lore.
The ancient Celts believed in passing knowledge through word of mouth alone, so we have very little written information about them — mostly from invaders or Christian monks who had their own biases.
Yet the vibrant spirit of the Celtic culture still resonates through our myths, art, and traditions today. We can even trace our modern Arthurian legends back to the early myths of Ireland and the British Isles, particularly Wales.
The Unique Celtic Perspective
The unique thing about Celtic mystery wisdom is its deep connection with:
- the Faery tradition
- the Four Sacred Hallows of the Faeries
- the concept of the Grail (which evolved from the Hallows)
- and the importance of the intuitive sacred feminine (as evidenced by the many circular stone structures, rounded mounds and the prominence of Goddesses like Sovereignty, Brigit, The Caileach, The Morrigan, etc.).
Egypt was primarily concerned with left-brain, logical, or masculine wisdom and sacred geometry, which is reflected in the many straight-sided and angular temples such as the pyramids.
The Celtic mystery schools, on the other hand, anchored the right-brain, feminine aspect of mystery wisdom in the northern hemisphere. This difference between these two streams of mystery wisdom created a sort of balance in the world.
Considering how powerful and destructive the masculine “god” force eventually became, maintaining this balance was no easy feat.
Followers of the feminine Celtic path were labeled as witches and ruthlessly persecuted or killed. Hence the need for great secrecy in their mystery traditions.
Now that feminine “goddess” energy is returning to mass awareness, her secrets are being revealed.
There has recently been a resurgence of interest in all things Celtic, and for good reason. Hidden in the mythology, art, music and magic of the Celtic tradition are keys to understanding life, creation, balance and our purpose for being.
It has even been said by Montegue Keene that, “Ireland is the key that will unlock everything,” — in other words, the key to returning the human race to Sovereignty.
Though Ireland is only one of many countries that were heavily influenced by Celtic culture, it is perhaps the country most associated with the word “Celtic” today.
What About Magic?
What, you may wonder, does any of this have to do with magic? This is a magic school, after all.
The answer is everything! Magic, white magic at least, is based on ancient mystery wisdom which is all about finding our place within sacred geometry, mythology, the seven directions, the four Sacred Hallows, the five elements, and universal laws such as Law of Attraction.
White magic is about the transformation of awareness of the self from limited human to empowered master or Mage or, alchemically speaking, from lead into gold.
Another form of magic is called gray or Practical Magic. Gray magic is folk magic — using Law of Attraction, enhanced by symbols and rituals to engage the subconscious mind to attract what we want in life.
Gray magic is by far the more popular and easily accessible form of magic, because everybody wants something.
In the Celtic tradition gray magic is closely woven together with mystery wisdom, perhaps more so than anywhere else in Western civilization.
I am sure you have also heard of black magic, which is gray magic used in an attempt to control or harm others. Black magic will always backfire on the user. Furthermore, nobody else can be controlled or harmed unless they allow someone to harm or control them.
The so called “black magician” is really just using the power of suggestion to bring about negative results for those who are already consciously or unconsciously aligned with their negative purpose.
Raise your vibration with white magic and you will be immune to the negative vibrations of those working to harm or control others. Like a light in the darkness, you will clear the shadows.
