Brigit Invites You to Celebrate Spring and New Growth
You know that feeling when winter seems to drag on and on, and then suddenly you notice the days getting just a bit longer?
That’s the energy of Brigit (AKA Brigid), the beloved Celtic faery goddess who heralds the Spring.
Yes, she is a faery and one of the original Tuatha de Danaan who brought culture to Ireland in prehistoric times.
Her feast day is Imbolc, celebrated on the first or second day of February. It marks the beginning of Spring in the Celtic calendar.
If you’re not familiar with her, picture the most nurturing, creative person you know.
She’s particularly famous in Ireland, where countless healing wells still bear her name.
And yes, people still visit them today, tying little bits of cloth to nearby trees as healing wishes! (If you visit these sacred sites, please do not leave anything that is not biodegradable. It is so sad to see all the plastic trash that pollutes so many of these sites.)
Brigit & Healing
As goddess of poetry, smith-craft, hearth and healing, Brigit supports the best in humanity. Her power is creative, transformative and renewing, like the springtime!
Here’s what I love most about Brigit’s approach to healing: she gets that it’s not always about dramatic transformations. Sometimes healing looks more like the way spring arrives — a tiny crocus here, a slightly warmer breeze there, the gradual return of birdsong in the morning.
It’s those small, everyday moments of renewal that add up to something magical.
Brigit’s Flame
One of the coolest things about Brigit is her eternal flame. For centuries, her priestesses (and then Catholic nuns) kept a sacred fire burning in her honor.
Think of it as the original self-care reminder — that spark of hope and healing that never goes out, even when things get tough.
(Brigit was such a popular pagan goddess that the Catholic church made her human namesake a saint, and there is much overlap in their legends.)
As we shake off winter’s heaviness, Brigit offers us this beautiful invitation: to be both as gentle as those first spring buds and as strong as that eternal flame.
Whether you’re nursing a broken heart, dealing with stress, or just feeling a bit worn down, there’s something deeply comforting about connecting with this ancient wisdom.
So next time you’re feeling stuck or in need of healing, try channeling a bit of Brigit’s energy. Take a walk and notice those first signs of spring, light a candle, or simply take a moment to nurture yourself.
After all, if there’s one thing this goddess knows, it’s that new beginnings are always possible.
