The Faery Hallows
and the Search for the Holy Grail
A path lined with clues was laid out for us many thousands of years ago. These clues are woven into our world - into the very elements of Earth, Fire, Water, and Air that we see and feel all around us, but we can only discover their meaning when we walk the path and open the gates along the way.
In ancient Irish legend the Tuatha De Danaan, brought four gifts to our world at the dawn of time, providing us with a template to the secrets of Magic. This Magical Template has come to be called the Four Sacred Hallows. These Hallows can be recognized in the Arthurian legends, and in the Tarot decks that have become the basis of our modern playing cards. They have never been lost, yet few now recognize them.
Legends of the Hallows and the Holy Grail abound in Celtic/Arthurian mythology, but the Grail itself remains a mystery. It is represented as a Cup or Cauldron of Plenty in some stories, often in connection with a Spear, but in other stories it is seen as a Stone, sometimes in connection with a Sword.
Even in stories as modern as the Harry Potter series, we find reflections of the original four hallows in the symbols of the houses of Hogwarts: the stone in Slytherin's ring, Huffelpuff's cup, and Gryffindore's sword. And of course in the final book, the Deathly Hallows are represented by the elder wand and the stone from Slytherin's ring (with the unique addition of an invisibility cloak).
Going back to the oldest recorded Irish myths, we find that the Tuatha De Danaan, also known as the Sidhe (pronounced Shee) or ancient Faery folk, brought four gifts to Earth when they first arrived. These gifts have since become known as the Four Sacred Hallows, which are synonymous with the Holy Grail in Arthurian legends.
The Grail is not a "thing" it is the wholeness and balance of all things, as represented by the four gifts of the Faeries. They are represented as follows:
Note: The elements are often placed in different positions in various magical books and traditions. There are several reasons why I prefer the following arrangement, some of which will be obvious if you visit the Celtic Holidayspage. However, I also find that the elements can be moved to fit a particular ritual or physical location. I also agree with the reasons to put Air in the North as listed on the http://holysmoke.org web page.

You can use these symbols in meditation to enhance the creative energy of your magic. In balance they are a portal to the Otherworlds.

Magical Law of Attraction Quote
"When you're happy in the "stream" whereEVER you are, you've made peace with where you are. And in making peace with where you are, you've released resistance. And in the releasing of resistance, you're flowing rapidly toward what you are wanting.
And it will feel to you - if you can maintain this feeling even for a day or two - it will feel to you like all of the things that you've been wanting have been lined up outside your door
- And the door just opened -
And now they're flowing in."
